Let's Talk About Inertia

In the video I posted above, some students have recorded several examples of inertia and I think they explain very clearly what Newton's first law is all about. Inertia is the property of an object to resist changes in motion. Newton's first law of motion states that an object in motion tends to stay in motion (while an object at rest stays at rest) until an outside force acts upon it. In the examples shown, inertia prevents objects from moving or discontinuing their motion. I think that the numerous different examples were very helpful in the explanation of the concept as it shows inertia working in different situations.

  1. Great video! The students show good examples of the things we discussed in class including pulling the table cloth from underneath an object. I also like how they reference both sides of Newtons first law of motion and give a variety of experiments to support it.

  2. I thought this video was very helpful in relating inertia and Newtons 1st law with the girl on the table- that was a great example. It also answered some questions that I wasn't so sure about with inertia and the force of friction. Probably the best demonstration was the one with the ball in the little bowl thing because it clearly demonstrated inertia and friction. The only constructive criticism I have is to maybe find a video next time that has more demonstrations than explanations.
